Blackberries
We will be picking thorn-less blackberries starting around the middle of July. Call for days and times.
We furnish the picking buckets with plastic bags that line the bucket.. You simply remove the bags with the berries in them, take them home and pop them in the refrigerator or freezer. It would be helpful to have a box or cooler for the ride home in your card. Too busy to pick your own? No problem. Call and order some of our prepackaged 1-gallon (about 5 lbs) or 1-quart (1 lb or 4 cups) packs of fresh or frozen berries. I have a display of the equipment I use when making jams. This could help answer questions you might have and hopefully encourage you to make jam. Jam making is very simple and gets rave reviews from the family. There is also an information sheet with how to store fresh blackberries and some wonderful recipes for cooking with blackberries and answers to questions that are often asked. So be sure to pick one up if you have misplaced yours from last year.
Blackberries Ice Cream
2 pints fresh berries, 1 cup sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt, 3 c. cream, 3 tsp. lemon juice. Place berries in saucepan with sugar over low heat and covered. Raise heat, mash berries and simmer uncovered 5 minutes. Cool slightly, then strain through a sieve, pressing to exit juice. Stir in remaining ingredients and freeze.
